Anyone familiar with fine guns will have heard of the traditional London oil finish which is basically linseed oil mixed with driers and beeswax. This is the best finish to bring out the natural beauty of the wood and it makes the finish glow like no other can.
The downside of this finish is that once one takes the gun outside in the rain, the exposure to the elements has a detrimental effect to said finish and actually removes it.
I can apply a water repellant oil finish that ends up looking almost exactly the same as a traditional one if one desires such a finish. (non Tru-oil)
If one wishes I can also finish a gun with high, normal or satin gloss.
If you have ever examined a gun from the turn of the century some come up with a really dark finish that almost blackens the wood. This is one of the ingredients added to the oil that blackens over time due to exposure to the air. I could replicate that.
There is one other type where the wood goes darker and reddish over the years.
I should hopefully post pictures of that finish at work in the near future.
